[livejournal.com profile] newredshoes did this a while ago, but with Shakespeare. I am much lower-brow. And also I have had this song stuck in my head for two days.

Pick a lyric below and prompt me with a fandom, character, or pairing. No promises on timeliness of completion. You know how I do.

1. The cat calls through the night
2. And two chicks in the parking lot crack wise on the price of fame
3. They stood to gain
4. The phonebook's been ripped off
5. And two shapes in the dark across the way know the price of flight: Margaret/William, Hazards of Love, [livejournal.com profile] seekingferret
6. Its weight and size: Civil War generals RPF, [livejournal.com profile] newredshoes
7. If you've got something that sheds some light
8. Use it tonight, tonight
9. Heads down, thumbs up
10. Two sips from the cup of human kindness and I'm shit-faced, just laid to waste: Harrowdown, [livejournal.com profile] pushingmetaphor
11. So wait here, wait up
12. Stock tips from the credit checks come next in the logic's line
13. And all on my dime
14. If you've got will and a little time: Jackathan, [personal profile] marina.
[Use it tonight, tonight]
15. You had to send a wrecking crew after me: Tony Stark, [livejournal.com profile] soda_and_capes
16. I can't walk right: steampunk Harrowdown, [livejournal.com profile] deutscheami
17. Phantom of the heart
18. Four beats from the parting lungs and mind: Katara, [personal profile] meej.
19. Since I was a child; just grew there wild
[So heads down, thumbs up]
20. Four beats from soft, and get set to exercise your right
[Use it tonight]
21. If there's a choice between a chance and flight, choose it tonight, tonight

I took that Seduction Styles test and got The Libertine first time around, and then The Philosopher. I guess this means I'm the Marquis de Sade? (Somewhere, Caitlin is now crying.)

For the past few days, I've been signing online and then being kicked off for reasons usually unrelated to each other, like my parents or connection or a phone call, but the net effect is that it looks like I will sign on and then go silent like a tomb. I am okay and not ignoring you, youse guys. I am just also struck by the horrible mighty hammer of fate, which happens, every so often.

On that note (not really):

That Unnecessary Holiday Post

A lot of you gave me amazing things for my birthday. This is not the point, although it is tangentially related. The point is: request an icon set (up to five or ten), a banner, a fic (short), a sketch (horribly bad), and I will do it for your holiday gift, because the only thing I have right now in terms of money is "Amoeba Music Credit," which means I can only buy, say, Anna and Zoe music, which they will then point and laugh at me at because it is all in French.

:D?

If you happen to be working on some creative writing project, post exactly one sentence/paragraph/whatever from each of your current work(s) in progress in your journal. It should probably be your favourite or most intriguing sentence so far, but what you choose is entirely your discretion. Mention the title (and genre) if you like, but don't mention anything else -- this is merely to whet the general appetite for your forthcoming work(s).

I am the Queen of Unfinished Projects! )

In terms of this being tempting, I hardly think so, 'specially as I may not ever finish most of these, argh.

...I want to finish the Gratuitous Tragedy Catharsis Play.

THERE IS A REASON IT WAS ONLY THE CATHARSIS PLAY.

dammit.

A ficlet inspired by [livejournal.com profile] limyaael's rant about education and lack of teacher stories and things of that compass. Fantasy, original, and giving off bunnies like a nuclear power plant gives off radiation. Ohdear. Ooh ooh note: she teaches the equivalent of American high school + eighth grade, with grade system novitiate, initiate, equilibrium, ascendant, graduate.

The prompt was Juilliard--my RP character for [livejournal.com profile] no_mans_land_--and damn, this was fun. I like Juilliard. I had to throw in the reference to his poofter status at the end, because I did, so nyah.

Finicky Work )

So this was a lovely and quite fun challenge, this, and I would like to open it up again, since I got mostly Discworld suggestions. Which, by the way, were beautiful and lovely, and made me very happy, and yay for my apparent Breakfast on the Disc theme, which I didn't notice until the Vimes/Sybil was done. But the bunnies are still lurking, and I once again say: Challenge me anything! (Except for Discworld. For now. Watch this space, things to change as events warrant, etc.) Lyrics! Fanfiction for those of you whose writing I've read! (Yes I KNOW I owe you, [livejournal.com profile] erythros. I mourn myself.) Colors! Pairings! Fandoms: Harry Potter, Good Omens, and, um, Shakespeare? *trembles* And original fic. As see above. I know some of you have NOT yet, and, well, I'm free. Really.

We're reading MAUS in English--for me, it's the fifth time or something--and I was suddenly inspired to write a graphic novel.

Duuuuuuuuuuuude. I've finished the first page, and it's actually...pretty awesome. I'm very proud of it--good dialogue, readable handwriting; my mom thought the main characters, husband and wife, were mother and daughter, but not throughout the page, and the opening "montage" is really, really pretty.

This, though, brings up my catalogue of unfinished...things to a lot:
1) THE NOVEL.
2) The NaNo Fun Novel. Of joy.
3) The short story about wormholes and fundamentalists and Asimovean scifi.
4) The short story about the skatepark and the kid's story.
5) The song that's bouncing around my head, which lyrics include "tell me who you want me to be, and I'll be it--but don't ask me to be me," only with rhyme and meter.
6) The illustration for [livejournal.com profile] mumuchan's parody story.
7) The (unstarted) fanfic for A Heart Apart, [livejournal.com profile] erythros's baby.
8) The vocab list for my pet language, Kilis-Ai.
9)...And the roleplay, which has had its first major subplot all climaxed and gone, and needs an infusion of plot, fast.

I'm sure there's more I can't think of. But this makes me inexpressibly happy and feeling creative.

Nine, baby. NINE CREATIVE THINGIES. How can that NOT be cool?

This was going to be a post about the worlds I have floating around my head, but only one of them will fit into it. Goddamn, this thing is ginormous.

Dear NaNoWriMo Novel,

When I said I was going into you without any planning, I did still mean for your plot to be one of the many ideas I've had floating around my head since second grade. Not for it to be completely out of the flying blue. And to be set in sort-of-Russia. And to be about what happens to a society when you can't dream. And to be about the dangers of technology versus the dangers of lack of technology. And to feature a society with automatic abacuses, engine-drawn carriages (you heard me--not propulsed, drawn. Like pod racers.) and instead of microphones, sophisticated projection techniques.

In short, what the fuck?

Yours truly,

Emma the HIGHLY Confused

P. S. When I suggested you be about dreams, I did NOT MEAN for you to force me to listen to incredibly trippy music to get the language to sound right. I hate you.

I'm leaving for a week-long camp tomorrow morning, so farewell all ye faithful. *bursts into 'Goodbye Ladies'*

Gods, I don't know WHEN I'll be back at a computer. So, in farewelldom, I give you this profile of my almost-Marty-Stu-only-not-quite:

Why I love my friendslist: Because you guys are funny, creative, wonderful people. (Even the people who call me a Dodgers fan. *grumbles*) And I love you all, and I hope you have a wonderful summer!

I have made a resolution.

I WILL STAY FIRM.

It is thus: Lo, I shall not speak unto a soul (heh) about the novel I am herewith writing (1), for lo, I am long wearying thine ears about it, but thou'rt patient with me, o world, and do not box me about mine ears, as thou shoudst. So that no word on such subject shall cross my lips till five chapters are finished, and then again unto ten chapters.

So therefore and therewith, I shall type exceeding much unto my livejournal about mine "novel" and moan herein about such things, for the pain and suffering of writing thou, my mighty friendslist, knoweth well.

If any of thou wish not to be burdened with such moaning, thou must post immediately and forthwith, and I shall remove thee from a filter, or some such thing, so that I may not whine in thy ear.

Lo, henceforth so be it, world without end.

*hums the v'ahavta*

(1): Except unto Anna, for she is exceeding kind, and wishes to be let known about such mad things. She is also quite mad.

I started doing my ~1000 for the night, and I planned to write about a date between one of my favorite characters and the angel who's all wrong for him. It was supposed to be uncomfortable, annoying, and a huge mistake. Instead, Roger (the devil) is having a great time with Genna (the angel) and they're off drinking gin and tonics in some celestial bar. Now I really like Genna, too This is so weird. What the hell is going on?!

Uh...on second thought, maybe I shouldn't ask my devil that. ^_^;;

I am in the most fantastic mood, mostly on Roger's behalf...and on the other hand, there goes my one and only subplot so far. Damn.

Cookie, just for the, erm, heck of it:

There was no one there. The door was hardly even open; the wind had passed five minutes ago. Robert scratched his hand uneasily, where his hair was prickling.

In fact, the room was much more empty than it had any right to be…

He sighed. “Cassie? Get out of there, you’re not fooling anyone. Honestly.”

The ghost that materialized in front of him was too sheepish to speak, but not too much to grin.

(The prompt doesn't even matter--this has hardly anything to do with it.)
nextian: From below, a woman and a flock of birds. (Default)
The fantasy/scifi world I'm working on-- Kilis-- is, for me, incredibly complicated. To start with, it doesn't have *any* earthly (or fairytale) creatures except humans. There are equines, avians, felines, canines, draconics, etc., but the categories are sort of blurred and different. So at some point I'm going to have to sort out evolution and body structure for all these animals. Second, all humans have the ability to create things through their mind. This obviously has a *huge* impact on their society..,

And I haven't even started considering the secondary sentient races yet!

Anyway. A brief timeline:

Yes, I made this up just now. Why? )
nextian: From below, a woman and a flock of birds. (Default)
I have an SOV language, which means it should be postpositional (right?) The problem is that I'm not quite sure how this applies.

Example:

Shiyos Kilis-po latisiku

Shiyos=flame, -po=to, latisiku=traveled

"Flame traveled to Kilis."

That seems clear. But what about "The flame traveled to Kilis"? Would that be shiyos-ai or ai-shiyos? And what about "and" & conjunctions?
nextian: From below, a woman and a flock of birds. (Default)
I'm working on a conlang, which is very amusing and actually somewhat productive. Like Japanese, you can't have two consonants in a row, and there's no r, just an l. The vowels are mostly stolen from Hebrew without the "ay" vowel and with an "ow"--which at some point will split into ah-oo and ah-oh. It's an agglutinating/inflecting language, with something strange called 'dashed suffixes.' This is FASCINATING. But probably not to anyone else.

So for my own amusement, here is a sentence transliterated with a "Kilis-ai" accent.

Wi oled tis telutes tu bi salesh-eshidenet, tat al min al celieted ekual.
We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal.

This is FUN!

Put the last lines of the past ten posts on your friends list. (Not counting mine.)

1) Fudge never changed.
2) <3 Heather
3) She was living like it was her last night on Earth … because maybe it was.
4) Plus, it's funny, needs to be shared, and I don’t want to study for finals.
5) The goggles do nothing!
6) And it was the best and brightest day of his life.
7) It wasn’t what he’d planned originally, but it worked.
8) And I was...
9) No Hufflepuff bashing!!!
10) "Get Malfoy for me, Harry."

This sounds like a fic. I'm going to write it tomorrow.

Fanfiction.net is refusing to upload my story properly, so I'm just going to bloody well post it here. Bloody idiots. I'm a sodding British poser. Whee.

The story is entitled: Being UnSpEsHuL

It's a Mary-Sue subtleish parody fic. I'm not making it TOO over the top, because I want a plot line. Oh, who cares? Here's the first chapter:
