Conversations with Sares:

SARES: It's really a mystery how the Fire Kingdom's royal family even managed to get power in the first place.
EMMA: Strategic brilliance, obviously.
SARES: Oh, right. The people who developed the tank, the train, and the superhuman firepower, and who still has everyone fighting with swords. Not to mention "Once every century, we have unbelievable godlike power. I know what we should do with it! Let's set fire to the land that we already own."
EMMA: "Good idea, Lord Ozai! After that let's eat some kittens!"
SARES: Do we think Ozai was just ... like that around the house? You know, "AZULA! ZUKO! CHILDREN, IT IS ... DINNER TIME!!!"
EMMA: "TIME TO BRUSH YOUR TEETH!!!"
SARES: "LET US GO TO THE BEACH!!!!"

eta: [1:42] Sares: i also love zuko's stereotypical villain talk
[1:42] Sares: YOU LITTLE PEASANT
[1:42] Emma: HE CLEARLY HAS VERY LITTLE IDEA WHAT HE"S SAYING
[1:42] Emma: BUT BY GOD HE'S GOING TO SAY IT!
[1:42] Sares: i am going to pretend that in his mind the entire time he's thinking
[1:43] Sares: "SHIT"
[1:43] Sares: "WHAT WOULD AZULA SAY"
[1:45] Sares: zuko just has a careful repertoire of shit azula said to him when he "volunteered" to play fire nation army and everyone else
nextian: Chibi Jon Stewart, looking skeptical. (jon has some questions)
I have just made a discovery I can only describe as "baffling."

In sixth grade (...presumably), I drew four strips of a comic entitled "Tipper" about the adventures of President Gore and his wife.

I KNOW. I KNOW.

I would post them, but they are totally indecipherable to anyone who isn't me, and even then I'm having some trouble. For example, the last one is three panels of a voting booth--

PANEL ONE
(NADER, in a mask, steps into a voting booth.)
NADER: Shh, don't be afraid. Just step out quietly.

PANEL TWO
(Lieberman approaches the booth.)
LIEBERMAN: You were right!
NADER FROM BOOTH: WHAT IS IT? WHO'S DETRACTING FROM MY MOMENT OF TRIUMPH?

PANEL THREE
NARRATION: The deciding vote.
LIEBERMAN FROM BOOTH: NADER?!

Now this is fine, except for that I'm only guessing it's Nader in the first panel -- he could be a secret service agent or something -- the word "detracting" is totally illegible, and Lieberman is identifiable only by his tiny, malformed Jewish star. I apparently thought art was something that happened to other people.

Seriously, though, why would anyone draw a comic about Tipper Gore?

Mayor Gavin Newsom's office wasn't so sure. Although the mayor supports medical marijuana, Newsom has said he does not favor efforts to legalize pot, and his office was noncommittal about the proposal for the city to sell it.

"The mayor will have to hash this out with public health officials," press secretary Nathan Ballard said. "It's the mayor's job to weed out bad legislation. And to be blunt, this sounds pretty bad."

This is a real quote, for those who haven't seen it yet. How's your 4/20 going?

That pass a note meme? But as y'all know, anon is always welcome over here, nice or otherwise.

And while I'm being a dumbass in the grand internet tradition, the meme with the rules "lol you can't tell anyone the questions unless they're doing it too pressure pressure HAHAH." There were other rules, but I forgot them. thirty answers. )

You know, I could be sleeping, but instead I'm thinking, "OTW won't kill fandom; fandom's been around since at least the Aeneid."

Either I need to get a Twitter or a life.

I'm nineteen today! As a birthday present to myself I am exempting myself from making sense today.

No fuss being made here because I haven't moved for twelve hours and feel myself incapable of "fuss"-related activities. BUT I have a new icon of Yuliya and another SUPER-HOT icon of Vladimir "Studmuffin" "Psychopath" Putin, thank you [livejournal.com profile] schiarire, and if you don't know who Yuliya is, ask in the comments, because you ought to know. Heidi also made me birthday communists, so I guess the theme this year is the USSR. Also Aria wrote me the King family, v. steampunk. In it there are artists and scientists so everyone can be happy. Really what I would like for my birthday is for all of you to go comment on each other's fics and dreams and ridiculous rantings. Yes!

I love you all, like fiery kittens on planes.

I would do that "where characters come from" même, but I'm sure everybody's seen Juilliard in half a dozen movies before, Ji has shamed me with her literary references (oh god felix comes from pulp fiction and stereotypes ji screw you), and nobody really cares. So I will just say that I think Josh came from the fluffy pink lagoon and leave it at that.

Today I discovered that one can watch three separate episodes of Coupling and not get bored. )

Also, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] newredshoes, there's this other meme where you can turn your subject lines into cat macros. The beauty of this is that all my subject lines are song lyrics and quotes. I present to you the best three cat macros, ever:

A crack theory, for those of you who rock and have read Abhorsen and Young Wizards:

Ranna = Filif
Mosrael = Dairine
Kibeth = Ponch (= Disreputable Dog)
Dyrim = Sker'ret
Belgaer = Nita
Saraneth = Kit
Astarael = Darryl
Yrael = Roshaun
Orannis = THE LONE POWER, YOU IDIOT.

IT IS SCARY HOW APT THIS IS. FOR REALS.

Sares: ... Does that make Caleb/Jake the HMS Oh Oh Yes?)

Please keep in mind, I will be having to explain this shirt to people on the street, at school, whatever, so if you honestly think I should have PONCY FRENCHMAN over my triple-D boobs I demand an explanation.

Itemised musings on mostly related topics:

1) When rereading Beauty in hopes of reinspiring oneself to continue writing the fairytale one has been working on, it is considered unseemly to develop a crush on the Beast. I am deeply ashamed.

2) Also, it's a very bad sign that when I reached this passage: "Well, go on," he said gruffly, with a wave of one arm. "I know you are longing to escape. I shan't follow you." I thought Alden!

3) Even if it totally is Alden.

4) But Beauty's reminding me very much of Lily. Really. *g* Sharp temper + obsession with knowing things + practicality.

5) Which means that I apparently now ship Alden/Lily.

6) Ok, I'm disturbed.

7) It is very very amusing to me that I was reading a story about Beauty and the Beast with my hair up in a bun and wearing a skirt in what I think of as my "desperate attempt to be Belle" style while walking down the street and reading and waving absently to cashiers and the like.

8) Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrel, by the first sentence, looks to be very good and I am so happy I got it out of the library.

9) Gordo's Burritos are some of the most wonderful gifts of the world.

10) Today looks almost as good as yesterday, and it is only almost as good because nothing could top yesterday.

11) ^___________^

I have been so very incoherent lately. (I am rather hoping Aria's going to protest to this and say, no, you were totally coherent when you stayed up until 12:30 RPing Juilliard and Alden rescuing each other and being snarky and very little angst, really, and then I have to hit myself and tell myself that that is part of the REASON I am incoherent, and then I fall over.)

(Um.)

(I have lost my train of thought again.)

(I will make a list!)

1) Hitchhiker's. Tomorrow. This is keeping me holding on, man, this is my very short rope, right here right there, and if that damnable actor who plays Zaphod screws it up I suspect you will be able to hear my screams from Timbuktu. And if things go right things will continue to go right. Or something.

2) School is a bugger.

3) Sleep would be a nice little thing, wouldn't it? Or is that sheep? I have stopped being able to remember the difference; it's been a while since I've seen enough of either. Pretend that last was witty.

4) Christopher Marlowe is amusingly racist.

5) I want to hit Dickens.

6) zzzzzzzzz

Feeling very, very spammy today. Updated my profile, with some references and explanations.

I know a grand total of one person who fits all those criteria. It's me. I love that. I finally have a definition of myself that I recognize. And it's in what I geek about.
