Yes, it's that time again, that time when I have to be in the computer lab scanning things anyway and decide to abuse my privileges to put up the nonsense I draw on my class notes!

You guys, you guys! I got podficced! By the EXTREMELY excellent [personal profile] luzula, whose voice is just so crunchy and wonderful. She did On the Initial Conditions of a Partnership (Amram/Zelikman) and Lovelace and Babbage vs. the Christmas Death Spider from Beyond the Atlantic, a title I regret making up now that I have to type it out one more time (Lovelace and Babbage). They're both wonderful. I love the first one best, partially because of the way she says "Amram" and partially because she has this lyrical style and it works very well (see also: her reading of [personal profile] fahye's Tempest fic "Genesis" and [personal profile] sinope's Ravens in Winter.)

I signed up for [community profile] dark_agenda's chromatic character fest, where you rewrite a canonically white character as chromatic and then deal with the consequences. It's 500 words or more and low-pressure, so y'all should sign up.

I have just made a discovery I can only describe as "baffling."

In sixth grade (...presumably), I drew four strips of a comic entitled "Tipper" about the adventures of President Gore and his wife.

I KNOW. I KNOW.

I would post them, but they are totally indecipherable to anyone who isn't me, and even then I'm having some trouble. For example, the last one is three panels of a voting booth--

PANEL ONE
(NADER, in a mask, steps into a voting booth.)
NADER: Shh, don't be afraid. Just step out quietly.

PANEL TWO
(Lieberman approaches the booth.)
LIEBERMAN: You were right!
NADER FROM BOOTH: WHAT IS IT? WHO'S DETRACTING FROM MY MOMENT OF TRIUMPH?

PANEL THREE
NARRATION: The deciding vote.
LIEBERMAN FROM BOOTH: NADER?!

Now this is fine, except for that I'm only guessing it's Nader in the first panel -- he could be a secret service agent or something -- the word "detracting" is totally illegible, and Lieberman is identifiable only by his tiny, malformed Jewish star. I apparently thought art was something that happened to other people.

Seriously, though, why would anyone draw a comic about Tipper Gore?
nextian: Chibi Obama, looking thrilled. (\obama/)
Emma draws ... and draws ... and draws ... Image-heavy like nobody's business.

this term's crop of 'notes' )

I'm posting this mostly because I did my first illustration that I think isn't hopelessly inadequate, but also to show off the kind of notes that I take, in case you ever have to teach me and think that because my pen is moving this means I am a diligent human being.

I woke up this morning to discover that I'd drawn rosalind & combeferre ) in the middle of the night. I have only the vaguest, most distant memories of doing so; most of them involve me going "damn, who should the other person be? Um. I. Doesn't look like Courfeyrac... Doesn't look like Grantaire... Has breasts..."

It's -- um -- a metatextual commentary on the union of the split gender in my personal psyche, the woman who dresses up and boozes like a man and the man who is sweet and tender as in the feminine stereotype!

Not at all a gratuitous excuse to make a joke about Grantaire in drag.

This is an accumulation of thoughts that I might eventually go back to. I just -- it's interesting to me right now, for no reason other than that I have homework I should be doing so I can't be online or NaNoing, but I can get away with pontificating in a text window so long as my mother doesn't look over here.

Things I have discovered about myself: when I am in a good peaceful mood, I become an egotist. SO HOW ARE ALL OF YOU
nextian: From below, a woman and a flock of birds. (Default)
So homework has, with no ceremony whatsoever, made me her bitch. That's okay, but it means that I haven't been online recently, and it means that I will probably continue to be not-online for a long time.

Woe.

On the other hand, to pass the time in my one class of total tedium I've been heavily decorating the cover to my assignment notebook with Metric lyrics and illustrations. It now has every patch of space filled in with all the lyrics to Live it Out, plus things like zombie arms, ribbons turning into roads, hot chicks in nurse outfits, and winged exit signs. This probably says more about my psyche than it should. But, ahaha! I am ... triumphant in my boredom in Spanish class! C'est finite, unless that's not how you say it. Scans forthcoming, since I promised them.

Uploaded My Wandering Days Are Over for the Italian Cousin last night, and then remembered that I'd uploaded it the night before for Sares, because I am smart. Here's the link for all of you, to put some substance into this post.

Also, the other day, by which I mean last week, I made an iconpost which Heidi immediately trumped with a much prettier iconpost, so go wander over to [livejournal.com profile] posticonic if you find yourself with free time!

LJ Reboot (a little late): Here's my entry, for those who haven't seen it yet.

Next on the même: So amusingly enough, I also met [livejournal.com profile] coppertone by some convoluted [livejournal.com profile] deadmentalking chain of logic. Her prime fandoms are the Fëanorians and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, so you can see why I'm a fan of this girl. She also takes lovely photos -- I have kind of hovered at the edges of those posts and resisted the urge to ask to icon all of them, right now, omgz!1. And I mean -- all her posts are like this! How can this not be someone you want on your flist? If you're looking for crackTolkien and lots of slash (and of course you are), [livejournal.com profile] coppertone is the girl for you.

I've rebooted! I am a re-boot-ee.

[livejournal.com profile] nextian. Profile-banner updates coming.

Er. And now my paid account is running out in ten days, and I won't be able to use this layout, but hey. *grins*

So I'm doing this from Aria's house, which makes me feel ... faintly like I am breaking all the rules. I don't know why, mind you. Perhaps you should just ignore me. Scratch that ignore.

Anyway, this post is for two reasons, both on the theme of creativity. My first notice: the revamp of my journal is to all intents and purposes done. So go look and see. The banner at the top of my journal features quotes from all of you, on the topic of why sunflowers are the meaning of life; the main quote is from a play I wrote, and ... well. Occasionally, it expresses my philosophy. Probably fittingly, usually I just think it sounds nice and looks pretty. I am a substantive young thing.

The second reason being: babbling about my NaNoNovel. )

A few more sketches, fanart again of course. This one's of Dion:
Aw, lookit him! )

And Arawn, this one is bad but it fits in with the theme.

I'm mad as hell and I'm not gonna take it any more! )

Finally: One of the twins looking at the Heart. I personally think Arawn, but he's not being threatening or anything, so it might be Dion.

It is the heart of this place, and it is dying. )

I AM BACK.

Yes, yes, you didn't notice I was gone, blah blah blah. I come bearing gifts, anyway. As I've commented, I owed both [livejournal.com profile] amberdulen and [livejournal.com profile] erythros fan art. The Serpent Society picture is here--I did a scene from Beth's mother's POV, and as always it's a spoiler.

Insanity )

Then I have the not-very-well scanned "cover" for A Heart Apart book 1, which I called Triad Rising as I didn't remember its real name, and I *like* Triad Rising. It has a ring to it. The scan came out crappy, but I have three more less elaborate sketches to make it up to you, as that braid is too darn fun to draw, so I have Arawn and Dion from practically every angle.

Triad Rising )

Longer post about my vacayshun after I sleep some more, or possibly later tonight. For now, I'm glad to be back!

And I was vastly entertained.

I mean, dude. A Wacom Tablet! Why have I never seen this before?

It is finished.

I present to you...the family portrait of the Ravenflower family! )

I live in a street with one end closed off in the back, so that it forms a little alley. In the back of the alley was this fence completely and totally covered with ivy. This ivy's been there since before I moved in, almost eleven years ago. Yesterday, they CUT IT DOWN. I trotted out into the alley after it was finished, little suspecting this treachery. I turned around and just stood there, when I saw it, gaping like a looney. (A very depressed looney, it goes without saying.)

It's like going merrily to Jerusalem, traveling to the Western Wall of the Temple (better known as the Wailing Wall), and finding a standard brick wall with a sign attached saying "Renovations coming!"

Not that I am being melodramatic about it or anything.

In other news! Am planning to enter a "dollz" contest, on xandorra.co.uk, so prepared my entry last night.

http://www.geocities.com/rainydaze1988/dollplutonium.gif

I quite like it. Took me only an hour or two, but it is in fact halfway decent. Feedback?

I finished the first chapter of my *cough* "novel", too. Yay me!
