So far this month, I've gotten two AMAZING presents. I want to be super clear here because it is always nice to thank people even if you think what they gave you is a pile of smelly garbage, all the praise in this post is totally sincere and you should check this stuff out, ladies and gents.

My Yuletart gift is a sculpture of Wendy and Lacey from the Middleman having an ice cream fight on the couch. !!!!! It's just so adorable and alive and enthusiastic and in character. It's a chibi statue and it's in character! It looks like a screenshot from the show come to life and chibified and I love it to pieces.

My eyai Yuletide gift (by [livejournal.com profile] fahye), "torque and other nouns", is ... by Fahye? Do I have to use more words? It's a character piece set during the Revolution and it's full of London scene-setting and action and cameos, and you should read it.

Though to be honest eyai Yuletide to date has been like a series of awesome gifts. The other two (besides mine) are Fry's Byproduct of an Insurrection and Aria's inertia. I am loving the physics naming system, by the way. I fully expect -- I fully demand -- that whoever posts in January name theirs "Spacetime Acceleration Action-at-a-Distance Momentum III: Quantum Physics Strikes Back."

I'm having the belated and stupidly obvious realisation that the existence of something like eyaiverse is ridiculously seductive when it comes to indulging myself through fiction. I decide I want to write something about architecture and gender identity -- I do it! Without bending any canon to my whims! Need a character do feel X and Y? I invent them! THIS MUST BE WHAT REAL AUTHORS FEEL LIKE, EMMA. Well, those real authors who use words to tame whatever the hell is going on in their heads.

(You realise that now it is only a matter of time until I bow to the inevitable and write something that is a thinly disguised exploration of my control kinks.)

I know this is like the most obnoxious thing to say to someone feeling this buzz, but ... have you considered submitting to Strange Horizons or something? The original eyai story, or something else, because ... uh ... clearly you have the capacity to create tightly-knit original fiction universes.

What I love about this as someone who doesn't quite have the level of control over the universe as you do is that -- so far -- nothing that I would consider canonical has contradicted anything else I would consider canonical. The universe just keeps growing. And holding together. It's like playing Jenga, but with philosophy and characters I'm a little in love with.

Yeah, you know, because I HATE control kink, and am in any way going to try to stop you, instead of beg you to write it immediately.

I -- don't know? Obviously one day I'd like to be published somehow or other, yadda yadda standard hopeful authorly spiel, but right now I am writing solely to keep my head on straight/not drop out of med school/not commit idle violence, so the thought of being that organised about it makes it seem...like work, I guess? Which is a terrible excuse. And maybe I should look into it.

What I *do* intend to do is collate and somehow cohere the story from point A (being 'ascending analogy') to point B (being immediately after the counter-revolution); Nacio's life creates an ideal span for a narrative. I want to work out what gaps exist within that and what else needs to be written, and I want to coax it into being, and then maybe I'll sit back and have a think about whether it would sell.

And YES, Jenga is exactly the right metaphor. With everyone avoiding the precarious section around the hole that is Wolf/Nacio :D

usydksajkhxckjh oh no, there will be no more eyai for the moment, I have other things to work on. One of which DOES involve kink.

No, I mean, I understand the impulse not to turn it into work! Believe me. It is why I never plan to be a writer. I just think you're awesome and want other people to read you. Sneaky, I know.

I'd love to see that. Would you and Ji publish it under a joint name, or would you adjust the story from some other POV? Also, this is a very powerful argument for you (EVENTUALLY, EVENTUALLY) to write the counter revolution instead of me, haha. Fewer copyright issues!

GOD WOLF/NACIO, EVEN ARIA WON'T WRITE IT, WHEN ARIA WON'T WRITE A SLASH OTP OF HERS THERE'S NO HOPE FOR THE REST OF US.

I wait on tenterhooks!

*handwave* No idea! Any and all bridges of that exciting nature would be crossed when we reached them. Though I like the idea of choosing a few key POV characters and pulling their individual stories apart, then arranging the threads so that they flowed chronologically, in parallel.

Well, the Agatha Verey, Spy For The Government story (I am so looking forward to writing Mai Linh as her handler, you have no idea) is going to cover that period of time, so if I feel ambitious (who are we kidding here really; if my brain & wordcount run away with me, WHICH THEY ALWAYS DO) then I will hit you up for endless details about the counter-revolution and weave them in.

I KNOW, I KNOW, IT'S HOPELESS, I KEEP TRYING TO THINK OF WAYS IN WHICH I COULD WRITE IT BUT IT NEVER WORKS. Damn Oliver Wolf and his asexually unassailable ego! I know exactly the angle I'd want to write it from and what themes I'd want to use and yet the words! they will not come!

Ha. Ha. First watch me completely fail to finish my Merlin heist AU which has been idling incomplete for-freaking-ever.

sdlk;dkjdfs. ONE DAY. One day I will conquer stupid Wolf/Nacio and write something AMAZING and THEN YOU WILL SEE. Because you're right, otherwise there is no hope. (But re: your Jenga metaphor: what if I try to write it and the whole thing comes crashing down??)

[personal profile] nextian is wrong. We'd declare it I just wanted these robots to make out OK [not canon] {OR IS IT} per [personal profile] schiarire's schema.

It wasn't a broad exchange, it was just our group of personal friends swapping stories because we're all big dorks for it. If there is a next time, though, I'll pass it on to the mods.
